Inspiring Teachers Programme

RAW has been working with schools across Abuja as part of its Inspiring Teachers Programme.

The programme is designed to establish relationships with schools, teachers and students to deliver a realistic delivery of literacy projects encouraging young learners to develop a love of reading and writing.

Inspiring Teachers Programme equips teachers with active, practical approaches to teaching creatively in the classroom that will inspire, enhance and develop classroom practice.

Recently, RAW has been successfully running workshops with up to thirty teachers at Hillside School in Gwarinpa. The workshops have been focussing on innovative techniques to encourage children to talk confidently about what they are learning. Through role-play discussions, word games and alley debates; teachers develop new ways to help their students develop analytical skills, build confidence and learn new vocabulary supporting literacy development. RAW also works on introducing tools to help students understand and re-create imaginatively. By introducing different teaching approaches, teachers begin to create a more conducive environment for promoting creative reading and writing in the classroom.

RAW works at a level that teachers are comfortable with whilst challenging them to think of different methods to inspire a love of reading and writing. The Inspiring Teachers Programme aims to improve the confidence of teachers and students encouraging them to discover their voice through debating and public speaking programmes which can be taught in workshops. Through debating and public speaking, RAW is promoting social advocacy which teaches the communication skills necessary for those ‘without a voice’ to develop the ability to communicate; to campaign; and to deal with the various bodies when communicating their issues.

RAW’s workshops are designed specifically to suit the specific needs of a school. The workshops can be tailored for both teachers and students.
